Boy, 9, cries after mum surprises him with first McDonald’s since lockdown

A young boy who was surprised with McDonald’s breaks down in tears of joy after going without it for months.

The fast-food giant was forced to close as Singapore endured weeks under lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

But in a kind gesture, Mum Wati brought her autistic son Adam Bin Mohammad Irwan his favourite McDonald’s meal – and his reaction is priceless.

Wati captures the moment he spots the goodies on camera and people are overwhelmed with how heartwarming it is.

Before she purchases the food, she sits in the car explaining the idea in mind, saying: “Hello guys. I’m [getting] McDonald’s. It’s a surprise!”

And in a bid to conceal the giveaway brown paper bags Wati hides them inside red plastic ones, but she suspects: “I think the smell will give it away.”

When Wati returns home with them, she leads the completely oblivious Adam into the dining room.

But because Adam believes his mum is pulling a prank on him he starts having a tantrum, shrieking and running around the table, before he realises what is laid out in front of him on the table.

He then starts to cry and runs over to give his mum a hug.

“I thought you wanted to scare me,” he says.

And Waki replied: “I didn’t want to scare you! I wanted to surprised you. Look, what is it?”

Through tears he answers: “McDonald’s.”

In another clip, Adam is then seen eating peacefully from a box of Chicken McNuggets.

She said that Nuggets with fries and ice-cream was Adam’s favourite meal, and explained that his “overreaction” was caused by his sensory sensitivity and mild autism.

Wati later shared the video to Facebook, where it has been viewed over 73,000 times with one person saying: “This boy’s genuine reaction is enough to move anyone’s heart.”

In the UK, another happy McDonald’s fan Hana McKeown, 25, shared her excitement online as she enjoyed her first Big Mac meal after McDonald’s reopened 39 more of its drive-thru’s.

She said: “Today I was reunited with a Big Mac Meal from McDonalds after two long months and it was way more emotional than I could have ever imagined. I missed you @McDonalds.”
